I didn't know there was so many people in that town. Also, I didn't know that the refuges brought the illness to them.

WHat I didnt know was a lot of the people who died did not know that they had the fever until the day that they died. 4000 people died in Philidelphia in 1793 from yellow fever alone and in some cases 100 died a day. Also i didnt know that the fever came from islands

My reaction to this article is that the Yellow fever was horrible. Also, the people in Philadalphia were very nocalent about the virus. I thought this because they refused to go near the docks, sick people, and all kinds of other things. Also, people were very cruel to people because of their own fear. For instance, the man almost did not let the man into his house for fear of the fever. Also, the fever was very sad for many people. I am very glad that we now have vaccines and medicenes, and that we know what helps sicknesses.

I read this already. Before i read this I didn't know that Yellow fever came from the Caribbean refugees. I didn't know there was compitition for taking out dead people, I find that strange but it put the prices down for taking out dead people. I didn't know there was a council of dead and sick. I found it strange that a man asked a man to stay an his stable for the night and say that he will be gone the next morning and the man was found sick in the morning when he said that he was away from the infected area, and the docter said that he will die in 2 hours and he did.

I reacted suprised, because for one thing I didn't realize how many people lived in Philadelphia and also I didn't realize that that many people had died. I also didn't know that the fever had caused some people to rise from their beds, go out into the street, walk to the river and then drown.

I thought more people died than 2,000. but the ting I agree with is the fact that they said that the closer you are to the river the more likely you will get yellow fever.aiso It was good riting.

I did not even know that Philidalphia was the largest city in the United States back then.

I learned that Yellow Fever has killed over 4,000 people in Philadelphia. I also learned that if you were close to the river you are most likely to get Yellow Fever. I also didn't know that the refuges gave them Yellow Fever.

I liked this page about yellow fever. I think it is sad that so many people died. In the page about yellow fever it said that over 2000 people died. It is good that yellow fever is not in the USA any more but it is still in South america and Africa. I think it is really sad that so many people still don't have medicine for it. I hope the people who have yellow fever in africa have mosquitos nets.

RE: Hayden I do agree with you but I dont think that man really did die. Well he did but I dont know how. Was it serrious? If it was he should have died in a short period of time. Why should there be a untrained docter fixing those types of problems? I think he should be trained. Why would people or other doctors let him in if his is not trained correctly. I bet he does not even help people and try and find what is wrong with him. If I were sick, I would not want to see that doctor. He could screw me up! I might even get more sick than I already have been. Also: Is he really supposed to be a doctor, if not that is eleagle. Well, maybe not in those times. How old was he too?

Before I read this article I didn't know that you could get yellow Fever so quickly! I didn't know that you could get Yellow fever over night, and die from it the same night!!!! Also, I didn't know that Pennsylvania was the biggest city at the time of the Yellow fever. Comment on Hayden's comment: I also think it is strange and disgusting that people had compitition on taking out the dead. EWW! Even though I thought that 10,ooo people died 4,ooo or more is still a lot!

I thought the article was amazing but the things in were both horrible and good. What I found amazing was that a (untrained I believe) doctor guessed the exact time a gentleman would die and he was correct. Also I didn't know there were so many people in Philladolphia. In the book it said the population was 40,000 but the article said the population was 55,000. Also it was amazing how many people died over 4,000!! One thing that I learned was that some days 100 people would die from the fever. Also I learned that the fever came from the Caribbean refugees, and that more people that lived by the water died. Also that a good portion of the population left the city to avoid getting the fever.

A couple more things I learned: I didn't know that Yellow Fever could kill you so fast, in a night. Also all that Hayden said I also learned.

I didn't know that the yellow fever had come from foreigners in the Caribbean. It's really sad that more than 4,ooo people in Pennsylvania died from yellow fever. I definitely wouldn't want to get the yellow fever. I also didn't know that the disease also caused hallucinations and delirium. That kind of surprised me. I can't believe that doctors and other people would just look at some people who had the yellow fever and say things like, I'll bring a cart in two hours so we can bury him. I know that so many people were dying and they couldn't save them all but, they should have cared at least a little bit to try to help him. I didn't know that the closer you lived to the river there is more of a chance of getting yellow fever. It's really disgusting about how many rats and bugs were in the city at the time. I probably would have threw up if I lived then.

I did not know that the Yellow Fever was so serious and sad. The fact that people were drowning themselves and were going mad is a crazy thing. I am glad that we have vaccines in United States of America. I am a little bit sad that yellow fever is still in parts of the world. Like in some parts of Africa, and South America. I don't think that there should be untrained doctors trying to cure, or at least help the sick. I think their should be some experience, especially since there are a lot of people who are dying. I didn't know that you could get infected so quickly!!! Even though I thought that at least 7,ooo people were dead, 4,ooo people dead is still a lot!! I hope that maybe someday, the United States of America will send medicine to Africa and South America for Yellow Fever. I hope that one day, Yellow Fever will be wiped out from the world forever, so we won't have to worry about it ever again.

RE: Nick, I don't think it is good that Yellow fever is in South America and Africa. I think you meant that you were glad that it is not in North America and is bad that it is in South America and Africa. RE: Gerald it was a old letter that they found years ago and made it into a article. They regarded a true story that happened, I don't think that the man who wrote the letter lied about the man's death, would you? I don't know how old the person was, maybe his late 20's or early 30's.

Before I read this article, I didn't know that the Yellow Fever came from the Caribbean refugees. They must have had it in their country, because that is how the Yellow Fever got to the docks, and visitors took it back to the city. Another thing that I didn't know was that they had competitions for taking out the dead. I think it must have been extremely sad, smelly, and gross. I guess that it was a faster, more efficient, and it probably very cheap too. I was also shocked that an untrained man in medicine was able to predict when a man was going to die and it actually happened!! I also learned that the closer you are to a river, the more likely you are to get the Yellow Fever. This is a very logical statement, because the Yellow Fever is carried by mosquitoes, and mosquitoes like moist areas. I also didn't know that you could get Yellow Fever in one night, and die from it the same night! Another thing that I didn't know was that over 100 people died in one day!! Lastly, I didn't know that Yellow Fever caused delirium and hallucinations!

I didn't know that they found out what had killed them after they had died. i also didn't know that that summer was extremely hot and dry. They were many mosquitoes had been there. I also thought that the people thought the refugees had it because they were poor and they were at the docks. That was partially true but the only reason was that they also had been bite from the mosquitoes also. It was tough to read about this things but theses things happen and it is always good to know the real reason of the problem is.

The artical was really helpful! I learned a lot of thing when I was reading it. Some things were that the population in 1793 was 55,000.
Philidelphia was the largest city in the U.S.A. In November 2,000 people died, WOW that a lot of people! In October 100 people died
DAILY! The fever started in July 1793. It is sad how many people died over all the years!

I learned a lot of things from this article. The first thing i learned was that the approximate population of philadelphia was 55,000. This makes it seem like it would be an especially large city at the time, which makes sense since the article also says it was america's largest city, capital, and it's busiest port. I also learned that the Yellow Fever came from Caribbean Refugees. I think this could mean refugees FROM the fever, so it makes sense that some of them spread it. I learned exactly how the mosquitoes spread the fever by biting infected victims and then healthy people. It seems especially gruesome that people's skin would turn yellow and they would vomit up their own blood. (which somehow was black!) I can understand the doctors and nurses of philadelphia being surprised and unable to connect the mosquitoes to the fever. This was probably one of america's very first (and worst) epidemics considering the time period, and that a whole 2,000 people died! I was surprised that the president and his cabinet would just abandon his city like that. I found it horrible that 100 people died in a single day! People must have been really scared by the fever.

I learned that the population of Philadelphia in 1793 was 55,000. I also learned that the people that didn't have money would stay and people who didn't care would also stay. Rich people would move. When people left the population of Philadelphia was down to half of what it was. On July 10 people died daily and in October the deaths were up to 100 people daily. In 1793 the deaths of Philadelphia caused by Yellow Fever were more than 4,000. I can't believe so many people died in Philadelphia because of Yellow Fever.

I learned that 4,ooo peole died from yellow fever in 1793. I also learned that Yellow fever was more dangerous than i thought.I learned that they have a LOT of causes by yellow fever in, Caribbean Refugees and i learned that we can get yellow fever just getting a bite from a mosquitoe. The last thing that i learned was that in Philadelphia, there was a lot of people and you can pass or get yellow fever really fast and when you lieve close to the river, probably you can get yellow fever easier.
