If you had been in Mattie's predicament, kicked off of the carriage in the middle of nowhere, how would you have reacted?

I would of done the same thing that Mattie did. I would of asked if Mattie's grandfather was strong so he could go with her to go to the river because it was cooler, cleaner and there was food, but if not i would do the same thing as she did.

I would try to convince the guards or doctor to let us in and that the grandfather just had a cough. If they said no, then I would try to find refuge in a farmer's farm. if the farmer said no, then I would just have to wait until grandfather was better, then we could go into the country.

i would try to work something out with them. I would hope they would let me go threw if they did not I would at least try to get the farmers to give are food back. If they said no I would try to get past the gards with my grandpa.

If I had been in Mattie's predicament I would scream and yell at the doctor and the guards. I would be mad and angry, because i would have to walk all the way back to Philadelphia and the problem is that grandfather is sick. He is tired and sleeping and it would be difficult to walk with him knowing how he feels badly.

I would beg the doctor to help my grandfather. If the doctor said no i would walk home, on the way home i would try to find water and something to eat. If grandfather was feeling bad we would sit down to rest and then keep walking the next day till we got home.

I would probably yell at the farmer and at the men and at the doctor that grandfather and I were fine and that we paid for the farmer to drive us to the country and he picked us up from our home.

I would try and convince the guard that my grandfather just has a little cough but it is getting a lot better. Then if they would not let us in I would walk a mile or half a mile back with grandfather and wait until the cough gets better. The only problem is that there is some dangerous animals around there like misquitoes. You can probably catch the yellow fever and probably will not receive any help. No one would try and help because they would not want to catch the fever. Maybe when you get better you can go back and see if you can enter the city. If they let us in I would thank them so much. Good thing you do not need to use a passport or anything like that!

First, I would probably check to see if there are people nearby who can help me. Then, if nobody is nearby or nobody will help me, I would find food and water. Next, I would find someplace to possibly spend the night (abandoned shack, small clearing, etc.). Then I would try to get out of the heat, so I don't become sick, and finally, I would settle in and get comfortable until somebody finds me and/or the person with me.

If I was in Maddie's situation, I would first see if Grandfather was strong enough to walk, but since he wasn't then I would rest for a wile. Then I would've gone looking for someone's house and ask them for help. If I didn't find anyone I would've gone looking for water and food. If I did find water then maybe it would help Grandfather feel better. If Grandfather was felling better from the water at the stream, then he could help me try to catch some food( maybe fish). Then if we finally cought something, we would start walking home. We would have food(that they are saving for the walk) and water (that they are saving for the walk) and start walking back to the village(in the night to avoid the heat).

I would have tried to get past the people with guns and tried to chase the farmer's wagon to get our stuff back. If that didn't work I would have tried to find food and water every day to gain Grandfather's and my strength to be able walk back to the city. I would have also stayed under a tree for shade or when it rained and try to stay dry. I would have tried to catch rabbits, birds, or fish or something that has meat. I wouldn't try to survive off of berries and fruit and water. I would have tried to help my grandfather walk to the city, and I would have rested at day time and walked at night to try to avoid the heat.

If I were in Maddie's situation, I would first see if Grandfather was getting better, or at least strong enough to walk. Then I would look for water and a place to rest, like a shady place, or a helping farmer's barn, where we could sleep in warmth. I prefer the barn. I wouldn't need to find water in the barn, because the farmer would have at least some water. Once Grandfather is completely better, then we could try and go to the Ludington's, and I hope we can get past the guards. Then once I got to the Ludington's farm, I would send a letter to mother and Eliza, to tell them what happened on the journey, that grandfather was better, and to tell them that we were safely at the Ludington's. I would also ask if mother might want to come, because it is safer here than in the city. Maybe even Eliza could visit, we would wait until the frost came, the frost usually kills out the fever.

Re: Sandeep 6:10, I would do alomost the same thing but at the farmers barn I would then send a letter back to Eliza saying that we couldn't enter the town because they thought grandfather was, and to have her hire to pick them up(but of course she would have to go with the wagon because the people could just take the money and leave). Also if Eliza went on the wagon they would have to get someone to watch over the mother, maybe Eliza's siblings or a doctor. ALSO: Sandeep the mother wouldn't be able to come visit Mattie because the doctor and gaurds would send her back home.

I would try to convince the guards that I do not have Yellow Fever. I would not go back to my house because it is miles away from where I am. If I was in her position i would feel nervous because if I needed to get shelter and food we would have to walk and grandfather is not in that great of shape. I would also do the best I can to be strong for grandfather.

I would first look for water and try to find a food supply to last at least a day to a couple of hours. I would not worry because of all the people that are coming from the town because of the fever. If someone saw me in the road resting they would probably pick me up. If I had to sleep there for a number of nights, every morning I would walk a couple of miles. For food and water i would search for vegetation such as fruit trees or bushes because usualy there is some water around vegetation, and fruit of berries. I would always be on the lookout for barns or carrages. I would sleep under trees like they did in the book and look for things to light a fire. If there were any animals like bunnies of squirels I would try to catch to cook them and eat them. If someone sick was with me would stay with them at all times. If I had to get water for them I would also tear off a part of my clothes to use as a rag to cool off the sick person's forehead every once and a while. I would hope for the best and eventually i might get to the town.

If I were stuck in Mattie's problem I would have seen if I could take the grandpa over to the stream with me so he could drink the water and stay in the shade. If the grandpa wasn't strong enough I would try to drag him or try to carry him as best as I could. If I couldn't bring him over there I would have done kind of what Mattie did with a few changes. I wouldn't have just drank the water plain, I would have tried to cleanse it somehow by filtering it threw your shirt or blouse or something to get the dirt out. If I could I would build a fire or something to get the bugs and parasites out. I 'd use the raspberries as bait and make a makeshift spear out of a stick and catch some fish and cook them if I could. If that worked I would stay until the grandpa had enough strength I would lead him over to the same city they got kicked out of because since the grandpa was all better they would let him in. Then I'd try to hitch a ride on a passing wagon out to the Ludington's and write to my mom and see if my mom had sent any letters to me. Although if I couldn't get the grandpa to regain his strength, then I don't know what I'd do. I guess I'd do almost exactly what Mattie did. I guess I would try to bring food to my grandpa every now and then and keep searching for help.

If someone on the farm became sick i would flee with Grandfather to a state that shares a border with Phillidelphia so i could write to mother without the letters taking a very long time to reach her. I would tell the guard to let us in because I could tell them that my grand father had a little cough and it was getting better. If they say no I would try and go far away so they can not see us and wait until the little cough of grandfathers would get better. The only problem with that would be avoiding the mosquitoes. There are many many mosquitoes. I could possibly get the dangerous Yellow Fever. That would be a disaster. I would not receive any help unless I walk back home with grandfather and get some good help. There is also two more problems. One the Yellow Fever could get worse and possibly die and number two no one would want to help someone that is sick. They might be scared because they probably dont want to get a deadly sickness.
