1. The Jefferson Memorial has japanese cherry trees planted alongside it. The cherry trees were a gift form the city of Tokyo to the city of Washington in 1912.

The memorial is composed of circular marble steps, a portico, a circular colonnade of Ionic order columns, and a shallow dome. The building is modeled after the Pantheon in Rome, and architect John Russell Pope used Jefferson's own architectural tastes in Roman Architecture, a style that Jefferson introduced to the country to create the building.

The architecture of the Jefferson Memorial was based off of his home, Monticello, and the architectire of his home was based off of the Pantheon. This style of architecture was chosen because he loved the stlye so much that he, literally, lived in it.
