1. April 14, 1865, President Lincoln went to Fords Theater with his wife, Mary Lincoln, Clara Harris, and Major Henry Rathbone. Originally, Ulysses Grant was supposed to come, but he was not able to attend. The production they went to see was called "Our American Cousin." Abraham Lincoln was later assassinated during the play inside of Ford's Theater.
2. After Lincoln's assassination in the theatre it was later used as a warehouse and office building. It was renovated and re-opened as a theater in 1968.
3. The Peterson House is treated as a memorial because after the shooting of President Lincoln he was taken to the house, and was tended there in his last hours.
4. After the government purchased Ford's Theatre, it was turned into an office. Even as an office building the theatre still had death; in 1893 some of the interior floors collapsed leaving twenty-two people who worked in the office dead.
5. The National Park Service acquired the theatre in 1933, and the entire interior was reconstructed in the 1960s to recreate its historic appearance on the night of the assassination.
6. The theater is still being used for many performances like Christmas concerts and ensembles.
