Political corruption in elections and government, workers, minorities, and immigrants were suffering under unfair and dangerous work conditions, and corporations are forming trusts that keep others out of the way. The government officials were using bribery to get elected and they chose people who work in gov. jobs because they helped them get elected. The workers were gettting their salaries cut and minorities and immigrants were treated unfairly, kids were working, and there was racism and dangerous work conditions ex. long hair could get caught in machinery and the tenements were small and unsanitary. Rockefeller formed a trust on oil to get rich unlike Carnegie who used better quality cheaper cost.

I believe that the three largest problems that would be investigated by muckrakers are global warming, swine flu, and if the president (Obama) is doing a good job in office. Global warming because it is still big news and many people are still freaking out about it. Also, the muckrakers might look for specific companies that are contributing the most to that problem. Swine flu because everyone in America is thinking swine flu is soooooo dangerous, but the actual flu causes many more deaths than swine flu. The muckrakers would see if it is really that bad. They would research if Obama is doing a good job in office. They would find out if he is helping America through the bad economy and if he is living up to what he said he would when he was campaigning.

RE: Robbie I don't think that they would investigate if Obama was doing well in office, and even if they did. It would not matter because that is oppinion. It is the same thing with global warming that is all oppinion as well. I think global warming is happening, but that doesn't mean you do. The Swine Flu is really the only one out of the three things that you listed you can prove, and the things that the muckrakers exposed had to be fact, and even on that note the swine flu isn't corruption it is a fact of life.

I think that muckrakers would look into things like food contamination by some companies such as the E. Coli outbreak. Also they would look into how we handle security at places like national landmarks and important locations because things like the Fort Hood and VA Tech shootings. Lastly, like Robbie said they would investigate swine flu and if it is as bad as its hyped up to be.
Sorry if i don't make sense. Its early.

I think that muckrakers would expose things like misuse of the social security trust funds, lobbyist, and politicians who are "paid to play" schemes. They would investigate why the social security trust fund are going to bankrupt. They would also investigate lobbyist to show a pattern of money spent on politician's campaigns that favored their point of view. Lastly they would investigate politicians that sell government jobs or positions, I.E. like the previous Illinois governor who tryed to sell Obama's senate seat.

i theink that muckcrakers today would focus on the war in irack and the dificultis that the soldiers faced.
i also think that they would want to focus on corruptt politicians and the recent monopolies. they probabally write about gossip like "octa mom" and jon and kate plus eight, because that is what america is fueled on these days.

I think muckrackers today would investigate the economy right now, Re: Robbie's comment about global warming, and the education system. They would investigate the economy because of the recession we were in. Muckrackers would investigate if the economy is really doing better than last year and the problems people are still facing. Re: Robbie's comment about global warming, how bad global warming has really gotten and what the Obama administration has done, like they promised while campaigning, to help stop the release of harmful gases like carbon dioxide. Finally, the education system because U.S education system is at the lowest it has ever been. Kids are ranked the lowest for math and science, especially.
