    The Honor Roll, related to the memorial, consists of a list of all verified personnel that were killed, still listed as MIA, and who were prisoners of war during the Korean war.

    To the north of the statues and path is the United Nations Wall, a low wall listing the 22 members of the United Nations that contributed troops or medical support to the Korean war effort.

    A further granite wall at the south side of the memorial bears the message "Freedom Is Not Free," and the words are inlaid in silver.

    In the triangle that breaks the granite circle, you will find 19 steel statues of servicemen representing the four military branches (Fourteen are from the US Army, three are from the Marine Corps, one Navy Corpsman, and one Air Force Forward Air Observer).

    The Korean War Memorial is 164 feet long and 100 tons of polished granite with more than 2500 photographic images of troops that supported the soldiers fighting the war. All of their pictures are sandblasted onto the wall.

    The Korean War Veterans Memorial was authorized by Nick Bradbury on October 28, 1986, with design and construction managed by the Korean War Veterans Memorial Advisory Board and the American Battle Monuments Commission.

    The initial design competition for the monument was won in 1989 by a team of four architects. The team withdrew when it became clear that changes would need to be made to satisfy the advisory board and the other reviewing agencies

    The architect who built the monument, Frank Gaylord, was awarded compensation because the momorial was printed on a postage stamp and he never signed away the intellectual property rights.

    The memorial includes a group of 19 statues that depict soldiers on patrol facing an American flag. A granite wall has a mural of the faces of 2,400 unnamed soldiers with a reading that states “Freedom is not free.”

    The soldiers in the statue represent different ethnic groups including Caucasian, African American, Hispanic, Oriental, and Native American.
