Step 1: Find a file to edit, and open the file with Audacity
Importing Audio
- accepted formats include WAV, AIFF, and MP3
- Audacity cannot open copy-protected music files
Step 2: Look at the waveform
- larger waveform = larger (louder) sound
- smaller waveform = smaller (softer) sound
- right and left channels
- ruler = length of audio (minutes/seconds)
Step 3: Listen to the audio file
- play and stop
- spacebar shortcut
- click and drag to create selection
- use apple-A to select all
Step 4: Create a 10-second clip
- cut, copy, paste, and clear
- select audio first, then choose an operation
- zoom commands
- select audio first, then choose an operation
